Where else can you find Northern Lights besides on our posters? The polar lights, surprise, occur in polar regions. The scientific name for Northern Lights is Aurora Borealis, while the Southern Lights are called Aurora Australis on the southern hemisphere. During the winter, you can observe the magical light phenomenon both north and south of the Arctic Circle. Traveling to Antarctica on the southern hemisphere can be challenging. Hence, popular destinations to experience the Northern Lights include Northern Scandinavia, Iceland, Greenland, Alaska, Northern Canada, or parts of Russia. But the most convenient way to enjoy the spectacle is at home: You can find the light cascades and fluorescent bands of the polar lights as motifs in the Photocircle Gallery and order our photographic art as Polar Lights posters for your living room.
Our Northern Lights posters are created by solar wind, well not our posters, but the Northern Lights themselves. Solar wind is a collection of electrically charged particles constantly catapulted into space by the sun. The Earth's magnetic field deflects and concentrates this stream of particles at the poles. Electrons and protons in the atmosphere collide with atoms, creating electromagnetic radiation that we perceive as light. The color of the polar light is determined by the various elements of the Earth's atmosphere. Oxygen produces the most common, green Northern Lights. Through nitrogen and high energies, even violet and blue to reddish and white polar lights are possible. Clouds can create interesting light refractions, but darkness and a starry sky favor the observation of the Aurora Borealis.
Photographic art of the Northern Lights poses real challenges for every photographer: tripod and wide-angle lens are indispensable accessories. It also depends on the right exposure time and the appropriate location. But thanks to our selection of Polar Lights posters, you don't have to endure the cold until the natural spectacle occurs. In our gallery, you will find all forms of the Northern Lights, which are divided into corona, i.e., ring-shaped rays, curtains, arches, and bands. By the way: Not only our Northern Lights wall pictures are diverse, but also your design options. You can combine each motif in your desired format with our versatile materials such as Alu Dibond, acrylic glass, canvas prints, wall posters, or fine art paper.
At Photocircle, our core mission is straightforward: we aim to give back to the communities and nations that contribute to the uniqueness of our images. That's why for every art print sold, Photocircle and its artists donate part of the proceeds to a humanitarian, environmental or development project in the country or region where the picture is from. That way, we can give back to the people and places that make our images unique. As both Photocircle and its artists wave a part of the proceeds, you get beautiful art and the chance to make a difference without having to pay more yourself.
In 2020, we launched our reforestation project in Ethiopia. Our objective is to plant one million trees, a venture that will not only sequester millions of kilograms of CO₂ but also enhance the living standards of the inhabitants in our reforestation areas. Further information about our projects can be found in the 'About Us' section.
