The New York City Brooklyn Bridge is one of the oldest suspension bridges in the US. It bridges the East River and connects the two very different districts of Brooklyn and Manhattan. Today, the Brooklyn Bridge has six lanes at its lower level and above this the pedestrians and cyclists can cross over the bridge. The Brooklyn Bridge was opened in 1883, and it was then the longest suspension bridge in the world. The construction of the bridge took 13 years and cost 15 million dollars. Overall 6000 workers made this stunning construction become true while 27 of them lost their lives.
