Project Details

Less than 30% of Nepal’s original forests remain today, due to forest fires and agriculture. The effects of this are devastating for both wildlife (27 endangered mammal species call Nepal's forests their home) and many local communities, as 81% of the population in Nepal live in rural areas. Due to Nepal being one of the least developed countries worldwide, many of its communities depend on nature for food and income.

Our partner EDEN REFORESTATION PROJECTS began its Nepal campaign in 2015. Since then, they have grown their work to 32 project sites all over the country – from the mountainous Nawalparasi District to the lowland alluvial plains in the Terai Region and around the subtropical and tropical rainforests in Chitwan National Park.

They have produced, planted, and protected over 12 million trees and empowered more than 380 employees with fair wages and consistent employment, giving them the opportunity for economic self-sufficiency.

To put the cherry on the cake, over half of the Nepalese reforestation workforce are women (for many of whom it is their first opportunity for consistent employment). The campaign is also led by a woman, EDEN REFORESTATION PROJECTS National Director Rachhya.

Tree Amount
366.391
Since 2021 we've already been able to plant 366.391 trees thanks to the wall art sold on Photocircle. They will absorb approximately 29.311.280 kg CO₂ within the next five years and improve the living conditions of the people locally.
