"You maybe wouldn’t guess from my work that I started out photographing surgeries for medical journals. I still take the same scientific approach to my subjects, only now it’s to show new ways of seeing the guts of a city, and not a person".
Michael Belhadi has his roots in Algeria. He was born in Oran in 1963 but grew up in Westfälischen Paderborn. He is now a devoted Berliner and a father of two. Michael Belhadi first encountered photography during his civil service when he worked as an OP photographer for medical journals. After these initial experiences as a photographer, he decided to become a freelance photo designer.
After some challenging years, Michael Belhadi initially chose a different path despite his great love for photography and worked as a gastronomer. However, he missed the creative work and handling the camera so much that he sold everything and decided to move to Berlin. It was a courageous step that paid off. Today, he primarily dedicates himself to the fascinating anatomy of cities. With unusual perspectives and a scientific approach, Michael Belhadi captures the beauty of seemingly everyday places. He particularly captures his hometown Berlin in a striking way. However, Michael Belhadi's portfolio now also includes architectural photography from New York, Singapore, Athens, Marseille, and many other cities.
We are proud and happy to have been collaborating with Michael Belhadi for so many years because he is not only a special photographer but also a special person.
