CARE is a leading humanitarian organization fighting global poverty and providing lifesaving assistance in emergencies. CARE began working in 1945 in the wake of the terrible destruction brought by World War II. At that time, the organization sent 100 million CARE packages to post-war Europe. The starved population of Germany received more than ten million packages. Today, CARE International is a global confederation of 12 National Members working together in over 80 countries to fight poverty and to provide emergency assistance. Two additional offices are Affiliate Members and will become full Members of the confederation in the future. CARE Germany was established in 1980 and has grown into CARE Deutschland-Luxemburg e.V. in 2008.

CARE provides fast and efficient relief where it is most needed. With more than six decades of experience, CARE helps people prepare for disasters, provides lifesaving assistance when a crisis hits, and supports communities recover once the emergency has passed. The organization places special focus on women and children, who are often disproportionately affected by disasters. CARE is non-partisan and non-sectarian. Their projects are designed in close coordination with local communities and local partners, building on their knowledge, improving their skills and empowering them to create sustainable development. Their emergency work is coordinated by an international team to ensure a fast and targeted response in disaster and conflict zones. CARE raises their joint voice in Berlin, New York, Brussels, Geneva and other capitals to influence global and national policy decisions and to actively promote change. CARE is in consultative status with the United Nations.
