The story behind …

… “Freedom” by Mikael Jansson

Mikael Jansson - Freedom

“This photo was taken at Lake Toba in North Sumatra (Indonesia) on the day after my wedding. Me and my wife had a lot of stress during the year before our wedding because we had to plan a big celebration for about 500 people with me sitting in Sweden while my wife was still in Indonesia.

After the day of our wedding we rented a big boat to get a part of our family to my wife’s cousins house that lays at the shore of Lake Toba. Kids were playing in the water and were jumping off the rented boat. Everything was perfect and I felt so relieved that we were finally married – the future seemed so bright for me and my wife.

For me this photograph represents freedom and the wide open future that lies ahead of me and my wife. I have this photo hanging on my wall and I never get tired of watching it. Every time I look at it I immediately calm down and I drift off into my imagination.”
