You know how people often don’t really want to celebrate 40? We do.
We’ve officially funded 40 amazing education and development projects all over the world! Here’s an overview of what we’ve achieved so far.
AMERICA
WATERFILTERS FOR GUATEMALA
A project by the Vamos Adelante Foundation: with €1.040, we provided 30 families in Guatemala with access to clean water.
SPONSOR OLRICH IN HAITI
A project by Plan International: we sponsored eight-year-old Olrich from Haiti with €337 concerning aspects of his life such as civil protection in case of natural disasters, school equipment and medical as well as psychosocial care following the disastrous earthquake of 2010.

GIVE HOPE TO HAITI’S SLUM CHILDREN
A project by LESPWA e.V.
With €855, we gave over 600 children from Haiti’s worst slums the opportunity to go on a day trip to visit the world outside. For many of them, this was the first time they saw untouched nature or clean water, in short: a future worth living for.
SPONSORING MAICOL IN COLOMBIA
A project by Plan International
€342 were donated towards strengthening the rights of children such as six year old Maicol in the Colombian region of Villanueva. Part of the money was also spent on the construction of proper sanitary facilities within his very simple living conditions.
A SPONSORSHIP FOR ERIK IN BRAZIL
A project by Plan International
With €340, we secured a sponsorship for one year for three-year-old Erik from Brazil. This helps defend the rights of children like him and grants him the basis for an education.
AFRICA
PROTECTION FOR REFUGEES FROM MALI
A project by UNHCR
With €300 we helped provide humanitarian aid for refugees from the violent conflict between Tuareg rebels and government troops in Mali: the UNHCR With brought refugees from the dangerous border regions to the inland and airlifted relief supplies into the countries of arrival.
FIGHT POVERTY WITH ANIMALS
A project by CARE
With no more than €60 we were able to buy a pair of breeding goats for a family in Niger! Goats can produce milk (read: nutrition and protein) and they produce baby goats, which can then be traded or sold to another family for vegetables, fruit and other necessities.
RELIEF SUPPLIES FOR SUDANESE REFUGEES
A project by UNHCR
With €240 we helped erect a new refugee camp and facilitated airlift of approximately 285 tons of relief supplies, and thousands of tents from Kenia as well as the United Arab Emirates to South Sudan.
SPONSOR DALIA IN EGYPT
A project by Plan International
€336 made granted economic and social support to eight-year-old Dalia from Egypt for one year. The sponsorship contributed to the provision of safe access to drinking water in Dalia’s village and to encouraging girls to go to school.
SUPPORT SCHOOLS IN GUINEA-BISSAU
A project by Plan International
€220 helped strengthen community schools in the Bafatá area. Measures were taken to increase the number of children with access to education, improve the quality of the curriculum and the equipment of the community schools – to this end, teachers were trained, 5th and 6th classes established, and capacities of local organisations and administrations strengthened.
FIGHT THE FAMINE IN EAST AFRICA
A project by UNHCR
In order to help fight the famine in East Africa, this project supported the erection of refugee camps, the distribution of relief supplies and medical care for refugees from Somalia with €250. Violence, droughts and famines had driven over one million people from Somalia over the borders to the neighboring countries.
KINDERGARTEN BURKINA FASO
A project by Netzwerk Wunschträume
€100 made sure we could give one child in Burkina Faso the opportunity to attend kindergarten for two years. The children of the Wend Raabo School Complex kindergarten are looked after, they can study, play, sing, dance and also receive warm lunch every day – a solid groundwork for health and education.

CHILD EDUCATION BURKINA FASO

With another €324, this time, we provided six children in Burkina Faso the opportunity to attend kindergarten! The only bit of bad news: since our last project the yearly cost had gone up a little due to inflated food prices.
HOPE CAPE TOWN
A project by Deutsche AIDS-Stiftung
This project supported babies that are HIV-positive and who have developed a drug resistance, having been breastfed by their mothers, who have to take anti-retroviral medication. To give it a second chance in life, €260 funded a resistance check and suitable medication for one child (both resistance checks and alternative medication are not yet being financed by the government).
EUROPE
PLACE THREE TUTORS FOR ARAB KIDS IN BERLIN
A project by Schülerpaten Berlin
With €450, we paid for the individual tutoring of three children with an Arab background in Berlin: the training and placement of one volunteer tutor costs €150. We found this to be a really worthwhile cause, so we resumed the project twice!
5.000 FLYERS FOR KULTURLOGE BERLIN
A project by Kulturloge Berlin
For €196, we were able to print 5.000 new flyers for Kulturloge Berlin. This way, we wanted to contribute to spreading the word about their free (!) program to fill empty seats at cultural events by offering them to people with a low income.
MOABIT HILFT! HELPS 50 KIDS TO GO THE ZOO

With Moabit hilft! and €357, we financed a day away from their refugee shelter for 50 refugee children in Berlin and invited them to spend a day at the zoo.
WINTER WONDERLAND AT THE REFUGEE SHELTER

We also raised €600 more to host a winter festival for asylum seekers in Berlin Moabit. That way, we were able to turn their first winter in Germany into a more positive experience.
MOBILITY FOR REFUGEES

And finally, with €1.215 we also worked towards greater mobility for those refugees in Berlin by buying tickets for public transport and bicycles.
EDUCATION FOR ROMA YOUTH IN BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA
A project by Schüler Helfen Leben
In Bosnia and Herzegovina, we contributed to making education accessible to both Roma youth and children in Bijeljina. Accessibility of education is very limited for Roma, while education is a very important step towards an integration process. With the amount of €250 we were able to purchase 800 notebooks, 40 geometry sets, 80 paintboxes, 80 markers, 80 colored pencils, 80 pencils and 80 erasers.
EDUCATION THROUGH SOCIAL STREET WORK

With another €480, we also wanted to enable Romani children in Skopje, Macedonia, to take part in educational activities. So we helped establish a dancing project for girls between eight and 14 by buying 20 T-shirts, 20 pairs of shoes, 10 leggings, 10 skirts, 10 crowns, crafting material, two microphones and 30 toy hoops.
ASIA
MEDICINE FOR SYRIAN REFUGEES

Almost 2.5 million people have fled Syria by now. Most of them own little more than the clothes they were wearing when they left their homes. With €630, we helped provide much needed medicine for seven refugees.
WINTER PACKAGES FOR SYRIAN REFUGEES

With CARE we also raised €602 for winter packages for five Syrian refugee families, including a stove, fuel, blankets and winter clothing.
EMERGENCY AID AFTER CYCLONE HAIYAN
A project by CARE
After 13.2 million people had been affected by the strongest typhoon ever to hit the coast of the Philippines, 4 million people lost their homes, about 5.200 their lives. So we raised €240 to provide CARE packages containing tools and materials that allow 10 families to repair their own home – twice!
PROTECT KAMALARI GIRLS IN NEPAL
A project by Plan International
Child labor has been banned in Nepal since 2000. However, many girls from the South-West are still sold as so-called “Kamalari” (“hard working women”) for an annual wage of €40-50. This project over €510 worked towards freeing Kamalari girls from exploitative working conditions and grant them access to education.
FIGHT POVERTY IN MYANMAR WITH ANIMALS

With €60, we bought two piglets and by doing so helped a family in Myanmar start a small pig farm….
…and then we bought another three piglets with €90!
10 WATER FILTERS MYANMAR

In Myanmar we also helped ten families get access to clean water by buying ten ceramic filters with €100.
SPONSOR SANNCHAY IN CAMBODIA
A project by Plan International
This project supported ten-year-old Indian girl Sannchay with a sponsorship of €336 for one year. The sponsorship covered aspects such as health education, improved schooling and access to safe drinking water in the region of Angkor Chum.
HELP FOR SYRIAN REFUGEES
A project by CARE
Over four million Syriens are on the run in their own country, and almost 2.5 million are seeking refuge in other countries. With €160, you sent CARE packages helping two Syrian families two survive for one month.
SCHOOL FOR THE POOR IN BANGLADESH
A project by NETZ e.V.
With €230, we provided access to elementary education for five young girls in Bangladesh. And because that’s such a worthwhile cause to support, we did it again.
EDUCATION FOR GIRLS IN BANGLADESH

With Netz e.V., we also managed to send 10 girls in Bangladesh to school for €230! The highlight: with every girl you helped us send to school, NETZ guarantees that three further children will also be able to learn how to read, write and calculate – thanks to a funding commitment by the German Development Ministry!
SPONSOR JYOTI IN INDIA
A project by Plan International
Then three-year-old Jyoti from a tiny village in Uttar Pradesh, India, received a sponsorship of €192 for one year. These kinds of sponsorships help establish education, health and sanitary facilities in the area.
INSURE CHILDREN IN INDIA
A project by the Kovalam Surf Club
Kovalam Surf Club motivates kids from surrounding villages to get off the streets and into school by offering them free surf lessons while simultaneously strictly enforcing a “no school – no surfing” policy. With €350, we helped them buy insurance for 30 kids for one year, covering everything that might happen in their free time.
SPONSORSHIP FOR BABY ORANGUTAN MIKO
A project by BOS Foundation
€122 funded a one year-long sponsorship for orangutan orphan Miko in one of BOS’s rehabilitation wards. The sponsorship helps finance the wards, which take care of wounded and displaced orang utans. There, they get medical treatment and care.
HELP FOR SYRIAN REFUGEES
A project by CARE
With 120 € we helped support a Syrian refugee family in Jordan so that they can buy medecine, food and pay their rent.
