A21, founded in 2008, is a global anti-human trafficking organization dedicated to fighting slavery with the mission of abolishing injustice in the 21st century. A21 exists because of a problem, and the problem is this: The U.S. Department of State’s conservative estimate is that there are currently more than 27 million men, women and children in bondage around the world today – that’s more than ever before in history.
The sad reality is that only 1-2% of victims are ever rescued, and only 1 in 100,000 traffickers are ever prosecuted. In response to the complex nature of modern day slavery, A21 has a four-paradigm solution that is multi-dimensional: Prevention, Protection, Prosecution, and Partnerships: with ten prevention, awareness and education offices in nine countries, A21 aims to stop human trafficking from ever happening in the first place, by equipping people and inspiring them to make a difference. A21 hopes to rescue girls from the sex trade and protect them in the restoration process through their safe houses and transition homes in Greece and Bulgaria. Through Victim Referral, they also provide access to aftercare facilities in Ukraine, South Africa, Thailand, The UK and America. Wherever they have a presence, they seek to turn the statistics around by prosecuting traffickers and strengthening the legal response to human trafficking through strategic partnerships. So far, A21 has assisted close to 400 survivors across the globe and prosecuted more than 35 traffickers.
